Rare Palaeolagus Rabbit Fossil
Geological Time: Oligocene
Size: Skulls are about 50 mm; stretched bodies would be about 50 cm if extended. The matric measures about 130 by 110 by about 35 mm thick
Fossil Site: Badlands, Wyoming
Item: AA007
Price: $4500.00
Remarks: While badlands fossils are fairly prevalent, Palaeolagus (ancient rabbit) fossils are not, as such smaller bones are less likely to survive, and are also harder to find. This specimen has two rabbits that seemingly died while coiled together, a poetic ending for animals known for their high fecundity. I have never seen another such specimen, and this one clearly deserves the accolade of extremely rare. It is also extremely fragile.
